VMS Apps: Vehicle Monitoring System
VMS Apps is an advanced Vehicle Monitoring System designed for fleet management. It leverages drivers' smartphones as GPS tracking devices, eliminating the need for expensive dedicated hardware. The system provides a powerful admin dashboard where fleet managers can track driver behavior, monitor for events like speeding, and analyze route efficiency to improve fuel economy.
Challenge
A large logistics company faced a classic problem: ballooning operational costs due to the procurement of dedicated GPS tracking devices in every truck. Not to mention maintenance costs and additional SIM card slots for each device.
Approach
I developed a system that turns the driver's smartphone into an intelligent tracking "node". Using Flutter, I created a background application that is very battery-efficient yet still capable of sending coordinates precisely to a NodeJS backend.
Outcome
Hardware savings reached 100% for new units. The company now has total visibility over their fleet at a much lower cost. Fuel efficiency improved as drivers became more aware of their monitored driving behavior.
